Quality Control Specialist – Produce Distribution
On-Site Role

ABOUT THE ROLE
Our Client is seeking a dedicated Quality Control Specialist to join their produce distribution operations. In this critical role, you will contribute to the organization's net profit by reducing quality-related losses on inbound shipments of produce products. You will ensure all incoming products conform to written and approved quality specifications and maintain rigorous controls over receiving practices, labeling, sanitation, temperature, and bacterial levels to protect both the company and consumers. The position requires close collaboration with merchandising and procurement teams to monitor inventory, shelf life, and shrinkage, as well as to document and communicate quality data to relevant departments. You will also be responsible for identifying and correcting problem areas in the distribution center that affect product quality, such as plant temperatures, loading methods, product rotation, and handling practices. WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Execute receiving inspections for produce in the warehouse to ensure compliance with quality specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Work with produce merchandising, floral merchandising, and procurement teams to enforce and communicate quality standards for all incoming products.
- Ensure that produce and floral merchandisers are involved in the disposition of suspect product and are made aware of problem areas affecting quality.
- Document and report product quality data to the Produce Merchandising Department and Produce Procurement in a timely manner.
- Identify and address quality issues in the distribution center, including plant temperatures, loading methods, product rotation, and handling practices.
- Organize and maintain an accurate and up-to-date record-keeping system for inspections, inventory, and quality data.
- Monitor and ensure proper sanitation, temperature control, and bacteriological standards to maximize food safety and comply with Federal, State, and Local regulations.
- Conduct both day and night operations to uphold quality procedures throughout the distribution process.
- Perform product weight checks and provide information to the Accounting Department for appropriate billing adjustments (bill backs).
- Oversee the accuracy of quality-related equipment, such as scales and thermometers.
- Maintain awareness of proper handling procedures for various products to ensure maximum shelf life and minimize shrinkage.
- Provide surveillance information to merchandising teams to ensure proper product rotation is maintained.

- Perform other duties as assigned and be able to take on tasks outside of your area of expertise as needed.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Proficiency in computer skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to achieve objectives through others.
- Excellent oral communication, presentation, and writing skills.
- Ability to take initiative and handle tasks outside of your area of expertise.
- Experience in store management or retail produce department management (desired).
